Time for a Change

There are some hats that I wear that are not enjoyable for me. For instance, I do not like to dig ditches. Crazy, I know, but there you have it. There are machines to do that.

And work-release criminals.

I also do not like to clean my sons' bathroom.

No explanation required.

Other jobs I dislike are; cleaning out my car, dusting my bedroom and washing the screens on the windows. Not terrible jobs, just tedious ones.

But, my least favorite job is grocery shopping. I cannot tell you how much I despise going to the grocery stores.

It makes me sad to see people pay for their over-processed, nutrition-empty groceries with government aid, then pay cash for gallons of pre-made blue Kool-aid, Doritos, and cigarettes. It breaks my heart to see a grocery cart being pushed by an extremely obese person, on oxygen, who has Pepsi and Top Ramen in the cart.

 Next to the blue applesauce.

I want to shout at the top of my lungs...

YOU ARE MAKING YOURSELVES SICK WITH THIS GARBAGE!!! APPLESAUCE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE BLUE!!!! GET A CLUE!!!!

Then...

THAT WAS A CLUE!!!!

Do I know what I'm doing? Nope. I'm packing around 40 extra pounds of bad choices. Life's a dance, you learn as you go...and that's the difference between me and them. I'm learning. I'm not there yet, but am receptive to change. Call it my need to know trait. Call it wisdom. Or call it like it is~I don't want to spend my life doing things halfway and only being halfway healthy. I'm not likely to start training for a marathon or switch to a "liquids only" diet. I don't want to live forever. I just want to enjoy living while I'm here. I cannot be effective if I am sitting on my couch, eating blue applesauce and complaining about the health care system. I want to take charge of my body and say, I don't need the healthcare system. (Although, that would put my Mister out of work~wait a minute, maybe I should think on this a little more...)

Save it for somebody who doesn't want to dance.

So, change has come. My blog, which started out being a place to share our family journey is going to evolve into more. I am going to go "Back to Basics". I'll share simplicity in the kitchen, without compromising nutrition, health, or humor. I will still be sharing our farm and homeschool life, because that is a huge part of who I am, but feel like God is leading me down a different path. One of healing and restoration. And if this little blog of mine only convinces one person to put back the blue applesauce and make their own, then I will feel like I made a change toward something better.

Let me know if there are things you'd like to see covered!

Blue applesauce? That's just crazy! And wrong! Good luck on all the changes you're doing!

Amen! I always love new dinner ideas. While we do eat super healthy (in a real food healthy way, not a low fat, low carb kind of fake healthy way) I find that we often rotate the 12 dinners over and over and over!

Looking forward to the new posts!

My almost 21 year old son works at a grocery store on his college breaks. He says he can always tell when he has a food stamp order coming through because is usually all junk food, candy and sodas, all of which can be paid for with food stamps in our state.

Kim,

Several years ago, I went through the metamorphis myself. Stopped processed food consumption cold turkey.....
Something interesting happened. My first two pregnancies, pre-healthy eating, were spent in the hospital, on bed rest, much of the time. I had feeding tubes and high blood pressure......the works. (hyperemesis and pre eclampsia)
My 3rd pregnancy, POST diet change..........healthy. Totally healthy.

You shouldn't beat yourself up so much... From your blog, it appears ya'll eat pretty healthy anyway! And the best thing is you are already conscious of what healthy choices are. I know some people absolutely have no idea what good nutrition means. In public school they teach about the food pyramid and all that, but not really about the healthy fresh food versus processed foods with long names on the colorful packaging which you cannot even pronounce. I have begun a slow, but good process of teaching my own children that homemade is always the better option - even if its chocolate cake!

Just look at the pictures of people from those generations older than us. For the most part, their pictures are of pretty skinny people, and they ate bacon, eggs, gravy, HM pies, and all the good stuff. What did they NOT eat? PRESERVATIVES AND PROCESSED FOOD!

Keep posting! You continue to inspire the rest of us!

Another comment from me. I LOVE whole food foods but hubby hates this kind of food. We are empty nesters so it would mean cooking separate meals to eat that way and in some ways I feel like it is disrespectful to my husband. Any advice on this would be a great post as I am sure I am not alone here. For 15 years or more before she died my MIL cooked in a whole foods vegetarian way which my FIL hated and perhaps resented. I could see that this is a damaging thing to a marriage when the husbands preferences are ignored. This is a tall order for you but I sure would like to see a post on it.
